GETTING TO LORNE

Bus Transfers

For 2025 we will once again be offering bus transfers to and from Lorne.

At the time of your registration, you can select to add bus transfer as your registration add-ons. In the registration portal, there is a ‘Bus Transfer’ section. Please select the 'check box' to reserve the bus transfer.

Tickets are AUD$60.00 each way and seats must be reserved in advance.

Once in Lorne there is no public transport, only a taxi service, so if you choose to arrive by public transport it may be best to stay in the heart of Lorne for easy access to the beaches and cafes.

Please note: All times are indicative pending traffic conditions on the day. Please book your flights to allow for delays.

Wednesday 13 February (Melbourne to Lorne)

Approximate arrival to Mantra Lorne will be 12:00 PM and 1:00PM.

Departure from WEHI - Royal Parade, Parkville @9:30AM & @10:30AM

The bus will be located outside the WEHI Institute, 1G Royal Parade, Parkville directly opposite Melba Hall. The bus will arrive approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time and will depart at 9:30AM sharp for Lorne, via Melbourne Airport.

Departure from Tullamarine Melbourne Airport @10:00AM & @11:00AM

Passengers should meet in the blue Groups and Charters Bus (the L) zone opposite the International Terminal (T2), ensuring they have boarded the bus no later than 10:00AM. The bus will have a conference sign (LORNE CANCER 2025) on the front window.

Sunday 16 February (Melbourne to Lorne)

Buses will depart from Mantra Lorne at 11:00AM and 11:30AM sharp to Tullamarine Melbourne Airport and WEHI - Royal Parade.

Arrival to Tullamarine Melbourne Airport estimate @1:00PM and 1:30PM

Passengers will be dropped off in the blue Groups and Charters Bus (the L) zone opposite International Terminal (T2).

Arrival to WEHI - Royal Parade @1:30PM and 2:00PM

The bus will drop passengers outside the WEHI Institute, 1G Royal Parade Parkville directly opposite Melba Hall.

Car Rental

Melbourne Airport has six car rental companies located on site. All have offices on the ground floor of the short term car park, and information desks in the Melbourne Airport domestic terminals. Please visit here for further information

Train

1) Once arriving into Melbourne Airport, take the Skybus to Southern Cross Station. The Skybus departs from Melbourne Airport every 10 minutes and it is an approximate 30 minute journey. Tickets for Skybus can be pre purchased or purchased on arrival, for more information visit here.

2) From Southern Cross Station, take a VLine train to Geelong. Visit here for timetable information.

3) From Geelong Railway Station, take VLine Coach to Lorne. The bus will then drop off just outside Lorne Hotel. Please visit here for timetable information.

Bus

1) Gull Airport Service provides a bus from Melbourne Airport to Geelong with regular bus services. For timetable information (as vary on different days) please visit here. Pick up information from Melbourne Airport can be found here.

2) The service drops off at Geelong Railway Station. From Geelong Railway Station, take VLine Coach to Lorne on the Warrnambool - Melbourne via Apollo Bay & Geelong line

The closest stop is “Lorne Visitor Centre/Great Ocean Road”.

Taxi

Taxis and rideshares are another option from Melbourne Airport to Lorne. This is an expensive option with an approximate cost of $288. There is a taxi rank outside Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

Suggestions from the Airport

  • Melbourne Tullamarine Airport is approximately 140 km from Lorne, Victoria. Here are the options available to get there:

    Car Rental

    • Renting a car is a convenient option. Driving from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport to Lorne via the M1 and Great Ocean Road takes 2 to 2.5 hours. Melbourne Airport has six car rental companies located on-site. All have offices on the ground floor of the short-term car park and information desks in the domestic terminals. Please visit here for further information.

    • From Melbourne, follow the M1 to Geelong and then take the Great Ocean Road to Lorne. This will take just under 2 hours. However, allow a little extra time to stop along the way, as there are plenty of opportunities to admire the breathtaking views. You can save time by travelling inland from Geelong to Winchelsea and then taking the C151 to Lorne. However, this is nowhere near as picturesque or iconic as the Great Ocean Road.

    Public Transportation

    1. Skybus and Train:

      • Gull Airport Service provides buses from Melbourne Airport to Geelong. For timetable information (which varies on different days), please visit here. Pick-up information from Melbourne Airport can be found here.

      • From Geelong Railway Station, take a VLine Coach to Lorne. The nearest stop is "Lorne Visitor Centre/Great Ocean Road."

    Taxi or Rideshare

    • Direct Taxi or Rideshare: Taxis and rideshares are available but expensive, costing approximately $288. Taxi ranks are located outside Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

  • Avalon Airport is approximately 90 km from Lorne, Victoria. Here are the options available to get there:

    Car Rental

    • Renting a car is a convenient option. Avalon Airport has rental services available. The drive to Lorne via the M1 through Geelong and then take the Great Ocean Road to Lorne. This will take just under 2 hours. However, allow a little extra time to stop along the way, as there are plenty of opportunities to admire the breathtaking views. You can save time by travelling inland from Geelong to Winchelsea and then taking the C151 to Lorne. However, this is nowhere near as picturesque or iconic as the Great Ocean Road.

From Geelong Station, you can take a VLine bus directly to the Warrnambool - Melbourne via Apollo Bay & Geelong line. The bus will then drop off just outside Lorne Hotel.     • The combined bus journey from Avalon to Lorne typically takes 2 to 2.5 hours.
