PROFESSOR NINA TIRNITZ-PARKER
Professor Nina Tirnitz-Parker (MSc, PhD, GAICD, FGESA) is the Director of the Curtin Medical Research Institute at Curtin University. She is also the Head of the Liver Disease and Regeneration Laboratory in the Curtin Medical School and Co-Director of the Liver Cancer Collaborative (LCC), a multi-disciplinary initiative focused on advancing liver cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The LCC has established a comprehensive biobank of liver disease and cancer patient samples, which forms the foundation for cutting-edge molecular, multi-omics, and clinical studies aimed at driving personalised liver cancer treatments and biomarker discovery. The collaborative brings together experts across hepatology, oncology, radiology, and cancer research, leveraging these resources to improve patient outcomes through novel therapeutic strategies and early detection.
Nina has served the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) in various senior leadership roles, including Board Director (2019-20, 2021-23, 2023-25) and Chair of the GESA Research & Grants Committee (2019-20). She has also been an Executive Committee Member of the Australian Liver Association (2015-17, 2017-19) and National Scientific Meeting Convenor (2013, 2018).
Nina is an alumna of the international leadership initiative Homeward Bound, where she joined 110 women leaders in STEMM for an expedition to Antarctica in 2019. This experience reinforced her commitment to advancing science with a focus on health equity. From 2025, she will represent Western Australia on the GESA Regional, Remote, and Indigenous Health Committee.
