Graduated in 1960 and pursued post graduate studies and clinical experience in paediatric haematology and oncology in Melbourne, Los- Angeles and London. Returned to Australia in 1971 to take up the post of Clinical Haematologist/Oncologist at Royal Children’s Hospital and became Director of the department in 1975 and continue in this role till 1992.
The oncology research concerned pilot and collaborative clinical trials in Acute Lymphocytic Leukaemia, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, Hodgkin Disease, Paediatric solid tumours and Autologous and Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. Special interest included side effects of radiation and chemotherapy in children and adolescents as well as ethics of phase I clinical trials in children.
From 1992 till retirement in 2004 remained clinically active and was Director of the Division of Medicine.
